A very happy crowd indeed! These are myself and the rest of the participants who successfully completed the Warehouse Social Transformation course in May. Here we are receiving our certificates at Christina's Restaurant in Sweet Home Farm, Philippi, a community though impoverished, is already bursting with the signs of God's new life. The second module ended on a high note with new friendships formed and big lessons learnt in terms of how God approaches communities! I learnt once again how important it is to pray and listen to God in community transformation; that changes in the spiritual climate of a community are actually birthed as believers seek God. Next to me here, are Colleen and Elizabeth, two of the course facilitators.

As part of the course, I've started doing a project on Lentegeur, a suburb of Mitchell's Plain built in the 1970's to create housing for victims of forced removal. Many of the early residents originally came from District 6. Lentegeur today though, one of the poorer suburbs of Mitchell's Plain, is more known for drug problems, gangsterism and vigilante actions. The project involves finding out about not only the problems but also looking for the gems that God has tucked away in this community! Please pray that the research happening now will effectively help to lay some groundwork for a future churchplant in Mitchell's Plain!!
